“I wanted to study the landscape, to look at it long enough, until it entered me and I could carry it with me, inside my body always.”
It was so hard to put this book down! Suzanne Roberts hiked the John Muir Trail south-north in August 1993 with two girlfriends after they graduated from college. This book is part adventure, part soul-searching, part woman finding her place in nature. While this thru hike took place 25 years ago, it features a lot of the same struggles we face today – how best to protect natural resources, personal relationships both on and off the trail, safety, and so more. I highly recommend reading this book, especially for any women adventurers out there. I am so glad the Hike Like a Woman Adventure Book Club chose Almost Somewhere as this month’s book!
My kind of book. I will check the library for a copy.
