For once the tittle is exactly what the book is about: The Hidden Life of Trees written by Peter Wohlleben is literally about the hidden life of trees and has totally changed how I look at trees.
Peter Wohlleben worked for the forestry commission in Germany for 20 years and from that experience and his current position running a woodland that is environmentally friendly, he shares with us the behind the scenes action of trees. Because trees live 5 times longer than us, everything they do is on a slower timetable, which means it’s hard for us to notice unless we take the time to pay attention and know what to look for. Trees communicate with each other, have memories, put up defenses when attacked, repair damage, and so much more.
The next time I hike, it will be at a much slower pace so that I can appreciate everything the trees around me are doing.
