A Woman’s Guide to the Wild by Ruby McConnel is an awesome read. It is packed full of information that is specific for women as well as information every outdoorsy person should know, such as how to read a map and use a compass.
I really enjoyed reading this book; it was interesting and practical. The topics include: where to go, what to bring, setting up camp, building a fire, lady matters, food, first aid and safety, weather, navigation, and leave no trace. I like that Ruby covers the topics specifically as they apply to women and includes personal stories as well as stories from other women.
It is important to be confident about yourself and your skills when going into nature so you can be comfortable and enjoy your adventure. Reading this book taught me new skills to practice and boosted my confidence. I highly recommend it.
